Waterproof poke-in wire-to-wire connector
Kyocera AVX has created a series of waterproof poke-to-insert wire-to-wire connectors.
It rates its 9289-000 series as IP67, and is aiming them at industrial, transportation, commercial and consumer markets.
“These single-piece, three-position connectors are the sixth poke-home wire-to-wire connector series in the Kyocera AVX portfolio, but the first waterproof connectors in the range,” according to the company. which describes them as “tool-free” although the insulation must be stripped before insertion.
Extraction is tool-free using a twisting motion.
“The series features transparent polycarbonate insulators that allow installers to visually confirm wire positioning and ensure proper insertion, and single-piece phosphor bronze contacts with tin-over-nickel plating and contact beams that provide mechanical stability and wire retention, in addition to integral wire-stops that prevent over insertion,” it added.
Ratings are up to 10A and 1,000Vac rms – or the dc equivalent – and over -40 to +80°C.
IP67 is with 16AWG wire, solid or stranded, with outer diameters spanning 2.0–2.2mm or 3.0–3.2mm via different sealing cuffs.
They are also UL approved and RoHS-compliant.
Overall envelope is 32 x 21 x 6.8mm, with a 5mm connection pitch between the wires.
Applications are foreseen in factory automation equipment, outdoor recreational vehicles, transportation lighting, horticulture lighting, home appliances and drones.
Other contact counts and wire sizes can be accommodated in custom versions.
