The IP8x-rated CX90MW6 (lower in image) meets requirements for immersion in 1.5m of water for 30 minutes. It is mid-mount, partially loosing its height in the thickness of the PCB, and screw-mounted to the PCB.
A front sealing gasket prevents water penetration into the shell, while potting prevents water intrusion into the connector interior.
Dimensions are 15.92mm width, 7.73mm depth and 4.11mm height with gasket.
A second connector, CX90BW (upper in diagram), is spash-resistant from any direction, with an IPX4x rating. This is a surface-mount connector and has a single row mounting option. It is 10.5mm wide, 6.3mm deep and 3.82mm high with gasket.
"Both connectors are not only resistance to liquid, but also shock and vibration," according to the company. "During plug insertion, a plug stopper prevents direct force applied to the insulator, preventing insulator damage. The plug stopper and welding between the shell and components also enhance the prying force."
Current rating is 6A, and data rate up to 480Mbit/s are supported, it said.
Application is expected in consumer end-products that require quick charging and are often subjected to fluids and drop impacts – for example digital cameras, eBooks, sat navs, laptops, MP3 players, medical devices, portable storage, smart phones, tablets, wearables and vehicle infotainment systems.
